Fiesta!

We have no Mexican blood in our family. Obviously. Have you seen my legs lately? However, I love Mexican food and the kids love a party, so we celebrate Cinco de Mayo around here. And how do we celebrate?

#1. With homemade banners in the colors of Mexico's flag. Perfect for teaching Annie about patterns.

#2. With Mexican food of course. Sweet-n-spicy burritos, red rice, beans, chips-n-salsa and homemade mango juice. My kind of meal. Not Floyd's fave, but he humors me.

#3. With our Mexican clothes. Grandma Donna made a little trip south of the border a few months ago and Annie ended up with this cute number. My awesome pink sombrero didn't make an appearance this year - maybe next. Ben's clothes are also not from Mexico. Probably China.

#4. With a piƱata, of course. Hand-painted by the kiddo's and filled with special treats from Smith and Edward's. We love their candy section. We love that store.

#5. With a special visit from our dog. It's her birthday and they have a lot of perro's in Mexico, so as a present, I let her in the house for about 10 minutes. It confused her like crazy since I usually scream like a crazy lady if she gets anywhere near the door. The kids were excited all day for her special visit. Our dog is not a devil dog, but she sure looks like it with her red eyes in this picture.

#6. We don't have a picture of it, but we also spent the day trying out our Spanish-language skills. I won, hands down. Floyd's three years of high school Spanish were a distant second, Cole was third since his preschool teacher has started teaching them Spanish lately, and Annie came in fourth with a few phrases she picked up from Dora. Cole's favorite Spanish word is penguino (penguin, obviously), so we spent some quality time playing with his penguins.

We love a good party at our house. Happy Cinco de Mayo!
