D-Day B-Day

It's D-Day today. Sixty-six years since the American troops stormed the beaches of Normandy. A man in our church was talking today about his father who was part of the invasion (and lived). It brought a smile to my face and gratitude to my heart for the freedom I have always known. And for the record, it should be stated that I do not have that type of courage. I would make a terrible soldier.

It's also my birthday today. Yipee! I love birthdays, especially my own. Most of you probably know that. I'm not necessarily shy about how much I love my birthday. I celebrated with Floyd's family Friday, my parents and sibs yesterday, and my little family today. The only thing I love better than my birthday is stretching it out over several days.

My family celebrated at my dad's ranch. I went on a beautiful bike ride with my sisters and husband. Loved it. The real hero's of that little bike ride are my brother-in-law and mom who stayed behind to watch the 8 children we left for them. Luckily my brother came and burned off a little of their energy with a hike to the old pioneer house.

The kiddo's all learned how to pull rye (some a little more efficiently than others). They were all so proud to think they had helped Grandpa keep his fields clean. They haven't had the pleasure of seeing a 200 acre field polka-dotted with rye. It's not quite as fun as their little rye-pulling adventure was.
The babes seemed to enjoy their first cook-out at the ranch. It was a beautiful, peaceful night. I chose a good time of year to have a birthday.

I love to take my children to the ranch. They just run wild and are happy as can be the entire time. It makes being a mom really easy. Next time I'm having a pull-my-hair-out sort of day, I think I will just head out there and let them run wild.
Everyone spoils me on my birthday. I guess that happens when you love birthdays so much. My favorite present was from Cole. Tonight, he dragged the bench in our backyard over by the fence and told me he wanted me to get to watch the sunset with him. So we plopped down and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. The clouds were incredible tonight and it was very relaxing to sit and watch the sunset with my kidlets. Thanks Buddy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! For the record, every year when I look at the calendar and see June 6, I think to myself, "It's Katie Christiansen's birthday today." Yes, you never have been shy about broadcasting your big day! :)

I loved reading about the kids pulling rye. Definitely brought back some fabulous memories. Oh those were the days...

I decided yesterday that if I had one more day to live, I would choose Saturday. It was perfect. Run and bike ride with my sisters, yard work with my mom, and exploring with my kids out at the Ranch. Loved it. Happy Birthday, Kate! I am glad you picked such a great day to be born.

Happy Birthday! We never heard anything about getting together on Friday for your birthday, so that's why we weren't there. I hope it was fun!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! It sounds like you had a fanastic birthday!! I love Cole's present- what a thoughful little guy.

The ranch is such a beautiful place. That is great that the kids were so excited about pulling the rye. The good ol' days of walking through those fields and pulling it!
