Cole had the lesson for family night last week and decided that he would rather do an activity. His choice? Hunting for dinosaur fossils. He's been a little bummed the last little while that he hasn't had a chance to discover a dinosaur yet and a little mad at mom for not taking him to a dinosaur quarry. I know - I'm such a meanie.
Since the mountains are so beautiful, it was pretty easy to convince mom and dad that hunting for dinosaur fossils was a good plan - until about 3 minutes before we got to the trail head when some mysterious clouds appeared and gifted us with a mountain shower. Luckily, mom packed jackets. Unluckily, only two of them had hoods.
We took a vote and decided to hike through the rain. We're tough like that.
The rain made for an even prettier evening and some very VERY muddy shoes {which may or may not still be waiting in the garage for mom to clean them off}.
Annie was the champion dinosaur hunter of the night, finding the rock that was dubbed most likely to be a fossil by our dinosaur expert. Way to go, Petunia!
Ben won the muddy shoes award and also pleased us all by taking off said shoes and hiking in his socks. What a great plan that was!
We hiked on a trail off Old Snowbasin Road and some of you may remember that the last time I was on that road, I was running 7 miles up it in 90 degree (maybe 85?) weather. It was gorgeous then, but I hardly got to enjoy it since I wanted to puke. I was excited to take a drive up it and just enjoy the scenery. Well, come to find out, I actually prefer running up it then riding in the car - woo boy was I car sick by the time we made it to the trail.
The rain eventually stopped - pretty much right after it soaked the trail, so we stuck around until the very last rays of sun fell behind the mountains. What a pretty night.
