Boo

Hope you had a delightfully frightful Halloween filled with lots of sugar...

...a few spooks...

...and plenty of smiles.

Happy Halloween!

P.S. Cole, after much pleading, carved his own pumpkin this year. Can you tell which one is his? Probably not. He's about as good as me.

Autumn Day

Dear Dad-

We are having a lovely time playing in the leaves today. It's just the kind of chilly fall day you love. Wish you were here. Hurry home!

Love,

Black Island Farms

Have you heard of Black Island Farms? Of all the fall activities we have done, it's my favorite. Lots of fun stuff to do - petting zoo, pig races, big slides, train rides, bounce house, donuts, wagon ride...it really has it all. My kids have been waiting since last year for this and Cole is already asking when we get to go back.

My favorite part? The kiddie corn maze. I really hate corn mazes. I don't like being lost and I'm a teensy bit allergic to corn. Nothing fun about them for me. But...the kiddie corn maze you can't really get lost in. Loved it. In and out in about 4 minutes. Perfect. They do have some grown-up corn mazes if that happens to be your cup of tea. Twilight themed even.

Sick babies are no fun...

...but snuggling them sure is. Get well soon, little ones.

Oktoberfest

It was our annual family Oktoberfest last week. The point of this celebration is basically for Floyd to talk to the kids about his mission and for me to be a sweet wife and cook German food for him. German food is not on the top of my list of foreign food I enjoy. Too bad. If he had served in Mexico, I could be a sweet wife a lot more frequently. That being said, this year's menu was quite delicious:

Rot Kraut (cooked red cabbage with apples and seasonings): Floyd said it was quite authentic. I liked it a lot. Cole? Not so much. Annie would not try it.
Potato Pancakes serve with sour cream and applesauce: Yum. I was surprised I liked the sour cream and applesauce combination.Schnitzel: Very delicious. I was a bit prejudiced against these - blame it on Weinerschnitzel, but they were super good. Cole gobbled them up, which I was a bit bummed about because I wanted the leftovers.
And for dessert, Apple Torte. Obviously good. I do like German desserts. Annie was quite mad the cake didn't have frosting, but when she was finally convinced to try it, even she thought it was good.
For us, Oktoberfest also means bobbing for apples and Ben was a champion apple bobber. He grabbed them like crazy and tried to gnaw on them with his two front teeth. The floor got a little wet, but there were no serious wipe-outs.

I think it was a success because when Floyd walked in the house, he proclaimed, "it smells like a German house." Ordinarily, I'm not sure that would be a compliment, but for one night a year I'll take it as one.

Seven

Still growing, seven-months now!

1. I love those dimples!

2. I laugh every time you grab the spoon because I'm not feeding you fast enough.

3. It looks like you've got my sweet tooth - lucky boy!

4. My heart melts when you laugh at your big brother's silly antics - you really like that guy.

5. The way you pull your hair out when you are sleepy? It's seriously the sweetest thing!

6. Something you did not get from me - my goodness you love that dog Daisy. You laugh whenever she licks you - ewww!

7. Have I ever told you I love your hugs? Please don't ever stop.

Birthday Boy

This is my husband. I love him. He loves to fish. He loves me too, probably even more than fishing. Close call. It's his birthday today. If you see him, wish him a happy birthday and remind him that he is 32. He has a hard time remembering. Not because he's getting too old, he just has a hard time. He had a hard time remembering at 22 also.

Reeling in a big one (or maybe a small one, hard to tell from this shot) on the South Fork of the Snake River. Thanks for entertaining my husband for a few days every year, Child brothers. He really likes those fishing trips.
