Ogden Valley

Saturday afternoon was looking like a loooong time to be stuck in the house. Floyd, bless his heart, has been gone 3 out of the last 3 weeks and the three of us left at home needed a break. So, we headed up for a picnic in the Ogden Valley. It is frequently listed as one of the best places to see fall leaves...it didn't disappoint. We drove around the valley for a bit and then went hiking on the Pine View trail.
We didn't make it to the top, but considering I was carrying Annie, the backpack, and a picnic blanket while being dragged by Daisy, I still felt rather heroic. Mostly because I took Daisy. For the record, I would greatly have preferred to leave her home.

She's cute, but don't let her fool you. Floyd, for whom she is always perfectly well-behaved, wondered why I didn't let her off the leash. Yeah, right. Case in point - in the picture below, she is knocking Cole over while still on the leash.

The kids had a great time playing on the mountain. Cole collected a backpack full of leaves and slate. I also felt heroic being able to tell him what kind of rock it was. His only disappointment was not seeing any wild animals. We did see a bird, but that failed to impress.
That's a smile, just in case you weren't sure if Annie was happy or sad. FYI - she was adorable in the pink John Deere sweatshirt.

On the ride home, we stopped at "The Oaks" in Ogden Canyon and had an ice cream - Moose Tracks for Cole since he didn't get to see a real moose and bubblegum for Annie because it was pink.

Judging from the weather today, it looks like it's good we made it up there yesterday. I sure love the fall.

Nate grew up in the "valley" as he calls it, and I am always amazed at the beauty of it. What a fun time for you and the kiddos..........and daisy!
